Youth Ensembles Workshops with Paul Keller

  • 12:30-2:30 pm: Workshop I with Concert Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra
  • 3:00-5:00 pm: Workshop II with Symphony Orchestra with Winds, Brass, Percussion Ensembles

Sunday, March 19th at Emerson School (5425 Scio Church Rd) 

Collaborative Concert with The Paul Keller At Sundown Quintet

All student performers should arrive at Emerson School at 2:00 pm. Please wear white tops and black pants or skirts for this concert.

  • 2:15-3:15 Dress rehearsal I- ALL Youth Ensembles
  • 3:15-3:30 Snack for students
  • 3:30-4:30 Dress rehearsal II with The Paul Keller At Sundown Quintet- ALL Youth Ensembles

No Rehearsal Next Monday, 2/20

Dear Youth Ensembles Families,

Next week on Monday, February 20th, there are NO REHEARSALS for Concert Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, Wind, and Brass Ensembles due to President’s Day Holiday. Enjoy your long weekend!

You all should have received an email announcing the date change of the Classical Showcase Concert. As a reminder, the concert is now on SUNDAY, May 14th at 3:00pm at Forsythe Auditorium. Here is the updated Spring Schedule with that change: Spring 2017 Schedule

Next week is the CMSa2 Open House!  Each student received three postcards in their rehearsal this Monday…please give them to friends and encourage them to join our rehearsals next week, or feel free to share this electronic version: CMSa2 Open House!

Rehearsal Location Reminder!

IMPORTANT REMINDER! Beginning this Monday, February 6th, Concert Orchestra (5:30-7:15pm) and Symphony Orchestra (6:30-8:30pm) will rehearse at:

Scarlett Middle School: 3300 Lorraine St, Ann Arbor, MI 48108

Scarlett is the location of the next six Concert and Symphony Strings rehearsals on February 6th, 13th and 27, and March 6th, 13th, and 20th. (Rehearsals will return to Clague on March 27th.)

Percussion Ensemble only: This week you will also rehearse at Scarlett Middle school on Monday, February 6th from 6:30-8:30.

Winds and Brass Ensemble: Rehearse as usual at CMSa2 from 6:30-8:30.

Open House 2/13 | Rehearsal Notes | String Quartet Concert

Dear Youth Ensemble Families,

Our school is hosting an Open House the week of February 13th! Your students will be receiving paper flyers in their rehearsals next week, but here is an electronic copy: Open House Flyer. Please share this flyer with your private instrument teachers and encourage friends to “Come play with us!”

Rehearsal Notes from Mr. Nix to Symphony Orchestra:
The theme of this week’s work was rhythmic accuracy: making sure we know where the beat lies at all times, and executing the printed rhythms confidently. We also worked a lot of bow placement, and making sure our articulations were either short enough (staccato), or long enough (legato).

Percussion Rehearsal Tonight| Beethoven Concert Opportunity

Important Reminder for the Percussion Ensemble:

Your first rehearsal is tonight from 6:30-8:30 pm at Scarlett Middle School (3300 Lorraine St, Ann Arbor, MI 48108). 

For ALL Youth Ensembles Students, we want to let you know about an upcoming UMS Concert at Hill Auditorium that relates to the music your student will be learning this term!

The Budapest Festival Orchestra will be performing an all-Beethoven Concert at Hill Auditorium on Friday, February 10th at 8:00pm.

Here is a link to the UMS webpage with a description of the concert and place to purchase tickets: UMS Concert Webpage. You could also call the box office at 734-764-2538 to ask about discounted family tickets. As a warning, this will be a long program, probably at least 2.5 hours in length. However, is will be a fantastic opportunity for your student to hear a live, professional ensemble playing some of the works they are learning!

Welcome to Spring Term with Youth Ensembles!  We have an exciting term planned for Spring 2017 and look forward to successful events and great music with our students.

Please review the Spring 2017 Schedule and take note of the Important REQUIRED Performance Dates!

  • May 13th: 3:00 pm Classical Showcase Concert at Forsythe Middle School (ALL Youth Ensembles)
  • May 16th: 7:00 pm Chamber Music Recital at CMSa2 (for Winds, Brass and Percussion Ensembles)
